Softball: Colonels 7, Patriots 2

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va.- Freshman Kierstyn Peacoe struck out 13 batters and threw a three-hitter to lead James Wood to a non-district win over Washington (W.Va.) on Tuesday.

Peacoe (3-1), who struck out the side in the first and sixth innings, allowed just one walk and one hit batsman in beating the Patriots (7-2). She also went 2 for 3 with a run at the plate.

James Wood (3-1) broke the game open with four two-out runs in the fourth. With the bases loaded, Erin McCarthy hit a two-run single, and Charlotte Viands (2 for 3) followed with a two-run double to make it 5-0.

Morgan Sykes went 3 for 4 with a run for Wood.
