Softball: Hawks 7, Colonels 1

FRONT ROYAL- Skyline scored all seven of its runs in the first two innings and Sarah Beamer only allowed two James Wood hits as the Hawks pulled into a tie with the Colonels for second place in the Northwestern District Thursday night.

Beamer pitched all seven innings and struck out 12 for the Skyline (8-9, 4-3)

James Wood (12-5, 4-3) started No. 2 pitcher Erin McCarthy, who struck out five over six innings. Four of Skyline's seven runs off her were unearned.

The Hawks scored six runs in the bottom of the second with the help of three dropped fly balls.

Morgan Sykes led off the top of the fourth with the Colonels' first hit, and she was driven home on a Kierstyn Peacoe single.

The teams will face each other in the Northwestern District semifinals next week at Millbrook. If both remain tied after their final regular season game, a coin flip will decide which team bats last.
