Hawkins win two events at I-95 invite

STAFFORD — James Wood senior Amber Hawkins won the 800 meters and 1,600 meters to highlight area performances Saturday at the Brian Watkins I-95 Invitational at Brooke Point High School.

Hawkins took the 800 in 2 minutes, 24.20 seconds and the 1,600 in 5:15.15.

In the team standings, the South County girls won the 20-team invitational with 100 points to top runner-up Colonial Forge’s 61. James Wood was eighth with 24 points and Millbrook was 12th with 16.

Others who scored points for the Colonel girls were Laura Johnson (fifth in the discus, 81 feet, 7 inches), Laura Seymour (sixth in the triple jump, 31-3) and the 4x400 team (sixth in 4:29.42).

Millbrook was led by McKenzie Schrank (second in the 300 hurdles in 49.02, fourth in the 100 hurdles in 16.46) and Mia VanderToorn (fourth in the triple jump, 31-8 ½).

In the boys’ meet, Fork Union won with 91 points to top runner-up Brooke Point’s 79. Millbrook was fifth with 35 points and James Wood was 18th with 6.

The Pioneers were led by Tre White (second in the long jump, 18-0 ½, second in the triple jump, 40-9), Conner Faint (third in the 300 hurdles, 42.31), Justin Neff (third in the discus, 125-5), Tyler Cox-Philyaw (fourth in the 1,600, 4:34.88, sixth in the 800, 2:05.40), Adrian DeNeal (fifth in the long jump, 17-4),

James Wood was led by Owen Bales (fourth in the 110 hurdles, 16.24) and Logan Shiffler (fifth in the discus, 122-4).
