TRACK AND FIELD - Colonels sweep 6-team meet

STRASBURG — The James Wood boys and girls track teams were each victorious in a six-team meet meet held at Strasburg Wednesday.

The James Wood boys scored 161 points to beat runner-up Strasburg (117) by 54. Clarke County was third with 98.5 points, Massanutten Military Academy was fourth (56), Page County was fifth (38.5) and Moorefield (W.Va.) was sixth (20.

The James Wood girls scored 161 points to beat runner-up Clarke County (139). Strasburg had 116, MMA had 44, Moorefield had 15 and Page had 10.

The James Wood boys had two double winners. Matt Vitagliano won the long jump with a mark of 19 feet, 11/2inches and the triple jump (40-2) and Mark Bohler won the 800 meters (2 minutes, 9.70 seconds) and the 1,600 in 4:48.40.

Also winning for the Colonels were Logan Shiffler (discus, 133-11), Landon Rutherford (shot put, 42-5), Owen Bales (100, 11.6) and Andrew Shade (3,200, 10.46.6).

Those who won for the Clarke County boys were Nick Almond (400, 56.5), Justin Dulaney (200, 24.0) and the 4x400 (Dulaney, Ben Butler, Jarrett Wagner, Matt Dietz in 3:43.6).

Those who won for the James Wood girls were Sarah Johnson (discus, 106-0), Becca Ferrulli (triple jump, 31-51/2), the 4x800 team (Brittany Arnold, Sophia Dorsey, Halle Esparza, Maria Harter in 10:50.70), the 4x100 (Princess Sales, Ferulli, Kayla Shaffer, Kara Norman in 54.30), Amanda Funk (300 hurdles, 54.4) and Sales (200, 27.8).

Those who won for the Eagle girls were Michelle Yates (shot put, 36-2), Madison Palmer (high jump, 4-6), Eve Lettau (long jump, 15-1), Jayla Stephenson (400, 1:07.1) and the 4x400 (Emma Jenkins, Jade Payton, Stephenson, Kolby Parrott in 4:33.2).
