TRACK AND FIELD - Warrior boys, Judges girls win at Handley

WINCHESTER — In a meet consisting entirely of Northwestern District schools, the Sherando boys and the Handley girls were victorious Wednesday night at the Handley Bowl.

The Sherando boys scored 98 points to edge Handley (97), which received four individual wins and two school records from junior Dontae Mauck. James Wood was third with 65 points, Millbrook was fourth with 43 and Skyline was fifth with 22.

In the girls’ meet, Handley was first with 98 points, James Wood was second with 93, Sherando was third with 70.5, Millbrook was fourth with 42 and Skyline was fifth with 15.5.

The Sherando boys were led by Branden Litten, who won the 110-meter hurdles in 16.14 seconds. The Warriors also received wins from its 4x400 team (Andrew Mathew, Ryan Hindle, Daniel Snapp and Trevor Whiteside) in 3:35.55 and 4x800 team (Brendan Dougherty, Justin Hammer, Jahlil Northover, Noel Weber) in 9:27.95.

For the Handley boys, Mauck was first in the 100 in 11.04 and first in the 200 in 22.63, but he was at his best in the jumping events. Mauck broke the school record in the long jump with a mark of 23 feet, 71/2inches and the school record in the triple jump with a mark of 47-0. Individually, the Judges also had Jordan Dowrey win the shot put (51-0) and the discus (153-0) and Malachi Strother win the 400 (53.48).

Those winning for the James Wood boys were Mark Bohler (the 1,600 in 4:40.17), Andrew Shade (the 3,200 in 10:05.49) and Owen Bales (the 300 hurdles in 41.93).

The Millbrook boys winners were Tyler Cox-Philyaw (800 in 1:58.7) and Connor Faint (high jump, 5-10).

The Handley girls were led by individual winners Ashden Personius (the 1,600 in 5:24.87), Candace Nelson (the 3,200 in 12:14.37) and Mya Mintschenko (the 300 hurdles in 50.44).

The James Wood girls were led by individual winners Emma Hammond (high jump, 5-0, triple jump, 35-2) and Grace Greene (shot put, 33-21/2, discus, 112-4).

The Sherando girls were led by individual winners Davina Lane (the 100 in 12.82 and the 200 in 26.79) and Katie Rogers (the 800 in 2:27.53) and Angelique Matthews (the 110 hurdles in 17.08).

The Millbrook girls were led by individual winners McKenzie Schrank (the 400 in 1:02.85) and Mia VanderToorn (the long jump, 16-7).
