James Wood Girls’ Track Team Wins Ram Country Invitational

STRASBURG — James Wood High School’s girls track team took first place in the Ram Country Track and Field Invitational at Strasburg High School on Saturday.
James Wood freshman Rene Rosso took first place in the triple jump (35 feet), came in second in the high jump (4-10) and placed third in the long jump (15-91/4). Colonels junior Grace Greene won the discus (117-9) and took second in the shot put (34-111/2). Senior Sarah Johnson was the runner-up in the discus (113-2) and placed third in the shot put (33-83/4) for James Wood.
The Colonels 4x100 relay team of junior Princess Sales, sophomore Jamie Marcy, senior Amanda Funk and sophomore Kara Norman took second in 52.45 and James Wood’s 4x800 relay team of sophomore Sophia Dorsey, Lydia Sunderlin, junior Halle Esparza and sophomore Maria Harter also placed second in 10:35.62.
The Colonels’ 4x400 relay team of Norman, sophomore Kayla Shaffer, Marcy and Rosso came in second (4:24.78) and Sales also took third in the 200 (27.71).
James Wood finished with 104 points to finish 31 points ahead of runner-up Washington (W.Va.). Wilson Memorial (59), Riverheads (55) and George Mason (46) rounded out the girls’ top five at the 14-team meet.
Clarke County, led by third-place performances by freshman Madison McLean in the 400 meters (1:03.48) and the Eagles 4x400 relay team of senior Eve Lettau, freshman Catherine Lewis, senior Kolby Parrott and sophomore Jayla Stephenson (4:27.36), came in eighth.
