Rosso leads Colonels at Wolverine Classic

PURCELLVILLE — Junior Rene Rosso captured female MVP honors to lead James Wood to second place at the Wolverine Classic Track Invitational at Woodgrove High School on Friday.

Rosso won the 100 hurdles in 15.62 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 47.90, took second in the high jump (5-3) and triple jump (35-6), and placed fifth in the long jump (16-41/2).

James Wood’s 76 points were second only to Stone Bridge’s 101 in the 23-school meet. Handley was seventh with 36 points, Millbrook tied for eighth with 34 and Clarke County was 16th with 14.

The Colonels were also led by Emma Hammond (first in the triple jump, 35-11), Kenzie Konyar (third in the 3,200, 11:37.86) and Hannah Cavanaugh (third in the discus, 106-6).

Handley was led by Kristin Blake (first in the 800, 2:24.67), Taylor Beard (first in the high jump, 5-4) and Casey Nelson (first in the shot put, 38-5.5).

Millbrook was led by Kaycee Cox-Philyaw (second in the 800, 2:25.95 and 1,600, 5:30.49).

Clarke County was led by Madison McLean (second in the long jump, 16-8).
