INDOOR TRACK & FIELD - Vitagliano places fourth at NCAA meet
TROY, N.Y. — Former James Wood standout and current Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute athlete Matthew Vitagliano has been named Liberty League Field Performer of the Week.
Vitagliano soared to a career-best 14.87 meters on his sixth and final attempt to finish fourth in the triple jump at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship in Birmingham, Ala., over the weekend. Vitagliano, seeded 12th, moved from ninth to fourth on his final jump to earn his first All-America certificate (by finishing in the top eight). The senior’s previous best distance was his qualifying jump of 14.64 meters set earlier in the season.
