WINCHESTER — The past might be a little fuzzy for the James Wood High School boys’ track and field team, but the 2009 season is proving to be one the Colonels won’t ever forget.
For the first time in at least 15 years, James Wood won the H. Brian Landes Apple Blossom Invitational Saturday at Jerry L. Kelican Stadium. Though the exact year was unavailable, what’s crystal clear is that the Colonels’ situation is better than it’s been in quite some time. James Wood won the Smithsburg (Md.) Invitational on April 11.
“We won the Smithsburg invite, and [Assistant] coach [Mike] Onda wasn’t really sure the last time we even won an invite,” said James Wood head coach Matt Stegmaier after the 41st annual event. “So winning our own meet, that’s nice.
