Rosso takes heptathlon at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA — Former James Wood High School standout Rene Rosso captured the heptathlon at the 215th Penn Relays on Wednesday.
Rosso, a freshman at Mount St. Marys, totaled 4,548 points over the two-day event, a personal best and fourth best in school history. She topped Messiah College junior Taylor Weiderrecht (4,388) and Connecticut freshman Kelly Ward (4,344) as five women competed.
Rosso took the lead on Day 1 with a strong start. Her time of 14.85 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles was good for for 862 points. She added 830 points with her mark of 5-6 in the high jump . She closed out the day in the shot put (30-7.5, 486 points) and 200 meters (26.79 seconds, 729 points).
On Wednesday, she closed out the win with a toss of 93-0 (445 points) in the javelin and a time of 2:40.98 (562 points) in the 800.
