Last Chance Meet
WINCHESTER — Millbrook’s Sarah Purdy swept the girls’ hurdles events to lead area competitors in the Millbrook Last Chance Invitational on Friday.
Millbrook (79) placed second to Loudoun Valley (84.50) in the team scoring in the 16-team meet. Clarke County (39) was seventh. Handley and Sherando each had 22 points to tie for ninth and James Wood (15) was 14th.
Purdy captured the 100-meter hurdles in 16.51 seconds and took the 300 hurdles in 47.48, the second-fastest time in the area this season.
Clarke County’s Madison Webster also captured an event, winning the 800 in 2:21.48. That is the fastest time in the area this spring by more than a second.
James Wood’s Chance Grove was the lone local individual winner in the boys’ competition.
Grove’s win in the discus helped the Colonels place fourth (47) in 16-team the boys’ team results. John Champe (98) won. Clarke County (7th, 40), Millbrook (36, 8th), Sherando (11th, 28) and Handley (12th, 22) followed.
Grove uncorked a toss of 161 feet, 5 inches and became the first area discus thrower to top 160 feet this season.
The other area win came in a relay event.
Millbrook’s Chistopher Simonelli, Silas Schroer, Brad Hambrick and John Pullen obliterated their area-best time by more than 13 seconds in winning the 4x800 relay in 8:18.65.
