Colonel girls win tri meet

Winchester — Shannan Thorne took first place in two events and anchored James Wood’s winning 4x400 relay team to lead the Colonel girls’ track and field team to a tri-meet victory over Martinsburg and Hedgesville Wednesday.
Thorne won the triple jump with a leap of 31 feet, two inches, and she won the 400 meters in 1:03.30.
Morgan Craig won the 300 hurdles (51.00), Rachel Carson won the 800 (2:28.60), and Brooke Krossman took first in the 3,200 (13:08.90).
Thorne also anchored the Colonels’ winning 4x400 relay team (4:22) that included Carson, Craig, and Elli Ronay.
James Wood won with 64 points, followed by Hedgesville (46) and Martinsburg (43).
Hedgesville won the boys’ meet with 70 points. Martinsburg (45) came in second followed by James Wood (41).
Mason Smith won the 400 (53.6), and Jacob Sunderlin took first in the 3,200 (10:39.60).
