Pioneer girls, Wood boys win

WINCHESTER- Millbrook High School's girls' track team edged James Wood and Musselman (W.Va.) in a tri-meet Wednesday at James Wood High School.

The Pioneers finished with 58 points, beating James Wood by eight and Musselman by 19.

Millbrook distanced itself from the other teams with Crystal Nelson sweeping both the 800 (2:25.80) and 1,600 meters (5:23.40). Presley Parkes won the 3,200 (12:19.70), and Mindy Cooper took first in the 400 (1:07.90). The Pioneers' 4x800 team of Brooke Hagenbuch, Sophia Lee, Karly Knechtel and Shelby Feliciano (10:45.60) also won, and Millbrook's Randi Jones swept both the discus (92 feet, seven inches) and shot put (30-0).

James Wood's Morgan Craig won both the 100 hurdles (19.20) and the 300 hurdles (49.90). Shannan Thorne won the high jump (4-10), and Laura Seymour took first in the long jump (14-11).

The Colonels' boys' team won with 61 points, edging Musselman by five. Millbrook followed in third with 30.

Mason Smith won both the long jump (19-9) and high jump (5-10) for the Colonels.

John Simms won the 200 (22.70), and Cody Wright took first in the 800 (2:05.40). Wood's Joey Bynog won the discus (124-6).

Millbrook's Ryan Farnan swept the 1,600 (4:33.50) and 3,200 (10:15.80). Rodney Culbreath won the 300 hurdles (40.80) for the Pioneers.
