Colonels end slump with win over Sherando

STEPHENS CITY — Sherando High School’s boys’ basketball team was coming off an important Northwestern District win at home Wednesday against Central. Friday night’s opponent, James Wood, was in a big slump and an unexpected resident in the district’s second division.

If the Colonels needed to showcase what they truly had, their matchup with the Warriors would prove key.

Wood blitzed the Warriors early with 17 straight points and had what it took at the end to pull out a 75-60 victory.

“They’ve had that capability all year,” James Wood coach Al Smith said. “What we’ve been talking about in practice was attacking the rim. We started to do that in the fourth quarter of our last game and now we’re continuing to do that.”
