BOYS’ BASKETBALL - Wolverines 58, Colonels 43

PURCELLVILLE — Davie Wick scored 19 points to lead three Woodgrove players in double figures as the Wolverines defeated James Wood in the Conference 21 boys’ basketball tournament quarterfinals Friday night.

James Wood led 13-7 after the first quarter, but the Colonels scored just one point in the second as the Wolverines (14-8) rallied to take a 22-14 lead at the break. Woodgrove led 37-27 after three and outscored James Wood (8-13) 21-16 in the final quarter.

Prakash Ellis added 14 points, and Jameson Copeland scored 13 for Woodgrove.

Chandler Brooks paced James Wood with a game-high 22 points with five rebounds and three steals. Brooks, who went 7 for 7 from the free-throw line, was the only Wood player in double figures.

Woodgrove travels to face Sherando, a 66-52 winner over Heritage in Friday’s quarterfinal round, in Tuesday night’s semifinals.
