Johnson's late steal, basket lifts Colonels

WINCHESTER -- James Wood's Matt Johnson called it a "schoolyard" play.
After Johnson missed a shot in the waning moments of the Colonels' 68-65 win over Skyline on Saturday, the Hawks' Andrew Thorne collected the rebound and players from both teams darted up the floor -- except for Johnson.
The game was tied 65-65, and with neither team flirting with foul trouble and James Wood in man-to-man defense, Johnson took it upon himself to pressure Thorne the length of the floor. And for one brief moment, Thorne took his eye off Johnson, who reached in, poked the ball free and then ran around Thorne to corral the loose ball before calmly laying it in off the glass for the two-point lead with 1:08 left.
