What do you love about basketball: I just love how much of it is a team game. As you long as you have five solid guys, you’re good to go. You really need to rely on your brothers to get the job done.
Most memorable moment in basketball: Playing AAU with [Unique Hoops] coach Chris Rhone. I played on a travel team for him, and I had so much fun playing with the guys and traveling to different parts of Virginia and nearby states. That’s what made me love basketball. We had a lot of fun at a Boonsboro [Md.] tournament one time. We had a couple of close games that went into some overtimes.
Most embarrassing moment in basketball: I’m sure this has happened to everyone, but I did airball a free throw one time last year. It was the first game for me getting some decent minutes on varsity, and it was my third foul shot of the game. Everyone started laughing. But I got over it, and we ended up winning.
Three people you can have dinner with, dead or alive: Mark Wahlberg; I love every movie he’s in. He’s my favorite actor, hands down. Tim Tebow; he’s always been an inspiration for me. I love watching him play the game, and all the passion he plays with. And Kevin Garnett; he’s what made me become a Celtics fan. His passion is something I try to bring to the court.
Favorite superhero: Batman. I just feel like Christian Bale did a great job playing him, so that’s why I like him. He doesn’t need to kill people and superpowers to get the job done.
Favorite teacher: [Math teacher] Brian Sullivan (no relation). He’s been my basketball coach since freshman year, he coached me a little bit in soccer, and I’ve had him as a teacher the last few years. I’ve been able to spend a lot of time with him, and he’s taught me a lot.
Favorite athlete: David Ortiz
Favorite team: Boston Celtics
Favorite movie: “Lone Survivor”
Favorite TV show: “The Office”
Favorite song: “Collide” by Howie Day
Favorite ice cream flavor: Cookies and Cream
Plans after high school: I do plan on attending a four-year university, either to study business or aviation. I’ve loved traveling since I was a young kid. I’ve been fortunate to travel all over the globe. I love airports and flying, so I think I could see myself as a pilot. I’ve also been really good at marketing and been highly involved in DECA.
