Girls' basketball: James Wood 30, Kettle Run 29

NOKESVILLE — James Wood survived a rough night at the foul line to score a victory against Kettle Run on Tuesday.

The Colonels (6-10) went 4 of 18 from the line, but knocked down five 3-pointers in the contest. James Wood led 9-7 after one quarter, but trailed 16-14 at the half and 24-23 after three quarters.

The Colonels held the Cougars to one field goal in the final period. James Wood was up 30-27 before fouling Kettle Run on 3-point attempt. The Cougars missed the first attempt and made the last two. Kettle Run fouled on the inbound pass and James Wood missed both foul shots. The Cougars then drove the length of the floor and missed a running layup as the buzzer sounded.

James Wood leaders: Maddie Shirley 11 points (3 3-pointers); Brooklyn Medina 10 points; Josie Russell 9 points, 16 rebounds.
