Boys’ basketball: James Wood 42, Clarke Co. 40
BERRYVILLE — James Wood won its first game under new head coach Ben Bates by beating Clarke County on Saturday to earn a season split.
Clarke County (1-3) led 15-11 after one quarter and 23-18 at the half. The Colonels (1-4) rallied to the game 29-29 after three quarters. Bates said the two teams went back and forth in the fourth quarter, with neither team leading by more than four points. Clarke County took a 3-pointer with five seconds left, but the shot was partially blocked.
