WINCHESTER — The James Wood High School girls’ basketball team, in cooperation with the Athletic Department, Varsity Club, and JWAA, will hold the first annual Tom Pollack Cancer Awareness Game tonight when the teams host the Washington Patriots in a JV/ varsity doubleheader starting at 5:30.

Pollack, who was a long-time girls’ basketball assistant at James Wood High School and James Wood Middle School, passed away at the end of last year’s basketball season after a long battle with cancer. The game will be played as a tribute to Tom and his family and as a community service project with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society.

Proceeds from a portion of ticket sales from that night, 50-50 raffle, bake sale, raffle of James Wood Lavender — the official color for all forms of cancer — will be the theme during those games. Other donated items, half-court shootout, and monetary donations will all be collected with a goal of raising $1,000.
