Colonel grad to be inducted into UNC-Greensboro Hall of Fame

GREENSBORO — Cheryl Sparrow, a 1984 James Wood graduate, will be among those honored today when the University of North Carolina at Greensboro inducts the 1988 women’s basketball team into the UNC-G Athletics Hall of Fame.

A 2007 inductee into James Wood’s P. Wendell Dick Hall of Fame, Sparrow helped the Spartans post an unbeaten 11-0 record at home in the 1987-88 season and was a member of a class that was named to the all-academic team three times and qualified for the NCAA Tournament all four years.

At the time of her induction into the Colonels’ Hall of Fame Sparrow was among the active leaders in eight categories for the girls’ basketball program, including most points in a single game, most points in a single season and most points in a career.

Sparrow and her UNC Greensboro teammates will be inducted in a ceremony today and will be recognized at halftime of both the men’s and women’s basketball games.
