Stephens City — Under one arm, Heather Armel carried the basketball she had just used to break the James Wood High School girls’ scoring record. But as she left Sherando’s back hallway Friday night, the junior was stretching out her other arm to offer congratulations.

The recipient of the quick pat on the back was Warriors junior Kaitlyn Harp. Harp had only scored two points, but for one night, those two stole the show from Armel and her career 993.

Harp’s jumper from the top of the key with four seconds remaining in overtime lifted Sherando to a thrilling 70-68 win, maintaining the Warriors’ surprising hold on second place in the Northwestern District.
