Second quarter propels Wood girls past Goretti

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — The James Wood girls’ basketball team broke a tie game by outscoring St. Maria Goretti (Md.) 21-8 in the second quarter, and the Colonels finished with a 51-38 win.
James Wood (3-1) and the Gaels were tied 8-8 after the first quarter, and the Colonels led 29-16 at halftime. The Colonels and Goretti both scored the same number of points in the third quarter (nine) and the fourth quarter (13).
James Wood was led by Makayla Firebaugh (19 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, four steals), Hannah Arnold (seven points, four rebounds) and Amber Woolridge (six points, seven rebounds, three steals, one block).
