Athlete Spotlight: James Wood girls' basketball player Amber Wooldridge
Amber Wooldridge
James Wood High School 17-year-old senior
Sport: Basketball. Position: Shooting guard
Parents: James and Jennifer Wooldridge. Hometown: Winchester
Nickname: My teammate calls me “Bam.” It went from Bambi [which is like] Amber I guess.
What do you love about basketball: I like the intensity of the game. Your blood is always pumping. There’s always something new you can do. It’s just fun.
Most memorable moment in basketball: With my AAU coach Sanford Silver, we [the NHB Ballers] would always go to tournaments and win every game. It’s fun to play with a team you love and a coach that you love.
Most embarrassing moment in basketball: There’s been a lot. Like falling of course, tripping over your own feet by accident on the court. That happens to me a lot because I’m somewhat clumsy, but I’ve gotten better throughout the years.
Three people you can have dinner with, dead or alive: I love Drake, he’s my favorite artist; Tom Petty, my dad and I used to listen to him when I was younger and he recently passed away which really made us upset; Kevin Hart because he’s really funny and he would be fun to talk to over dinner.
If you could use a time machine, where/when would you go: Definitely the 1990’s because I like their style and basketball was really fun back then. It’s not as hyped now, but I feel like it’s going to get there in the future.
If you could go on a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go: Definitely Greece because of all of the monuments they have there and all of the special stuff, like all of the clear water. I’ve always seen pictures and it looks really fun.
Favorite teacher: Brian Levi, he’s a substitute teacher, but he was long-term at our school. He subbed for [a] class and we would go there and talk to him during study hall because we all get along. We had a bond.
Favorite athlete: LeBron James
Favorite team: Washington Redskins
Favorite movie: “Finding Nemo”
Favorite TV show: “The Walking Dead”
Favorite song: “No Sleep Leak” by Lil Uzi Vert
Favorite food: My mom’s lasagna
Plans after high school: I have options to play college basketball, which would be for a four-year college. If I find good opportunities that’s what I want to do. I want to study computer sciences. I want to do like cyber-security stuff and work for a top-notch school system or a big system and be in charge. I learned about it through class and my sister’s boyfriend does it and he has a lot of fun with it.
