Hot start fuels James Wood girls in romp

WINCHESTER — James Wood torched Fauquier for 29 first-quarter points as the Colonels rolled to a 55-27 rout of Fauquier in Norwestern District girls’ basketball play on Friday.

The Colonels (11-2, 3-1 district) raced to a 29-10 lead after the first period against the winless Falcons (0-13, 0-5).

Makayla Firebaugh had a double-double for James Wood with 23 points and 11 rebounds. She also had four steals and four assists. Donyell Sloane and Emma Van Horn added eight points each. Sloane grabbed nine rebounds, while Van Horn had four steals. Brenna Prunty recorded seven points and four steals.
