James Wood girls fall in district semifinals
BEALETON — Liberty held James Wood scoreless in the second quarter and to just six points in the first half as the Eagles rolled to a 43-21 victory in the Northwestern District girls’ basketball semifinals on Thursday.
No. 2 Liberty (17-5) clinched a regional playoff berth and will face unbeaten and top-seeded Millbrook (22-0) in tonight’s title game at Casey Gymnasium. Millbrook won a pair of regular-season games against the Eagles, including 47-43 when the two teams met last Friday.
James Wood (17-7) shot 20 percent (8 of 39) from the floor and was 1 of 4 from the foul line. Makayla Firebaugh led the Colonels with nine points, all coming on 3-pointers. Amber Wooldridge added five points. Donyell Sloane notched six rebounds.
