Northwestern District girls' tourney opens Tuesday

Regular-season champion Millbrook is the top seed for the Class 4 Northwestern District girls’ basketball tournament, which will tip off Tuesday.

The Pioneers (19-3, 12-0 district) will have a bye in the opening round and will host the winner of No. 4 Handley (14-7) and No. 5 Liberty on Thursday. Handley and Liberty split during the regular season and will play at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Second-seeded James Wood (14-7) will host seventh-seeded Kettle Run at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The Colonels swept two regular-season games with the Cougars.

Third-seeded Sherando (10-12) hosts No. 6 Fauquier in the other first-round matchup at 6 p.m.. on Tuesday Those two teams split during the regular season.

The championship games are slated for Friday.

All tournament tickets are $6 and only VHSL, VIAAA, and VHSCA passes are accepted.
