4A State Indoor Track Meet (Day 2)

LYNCHBURG — Millbrook senior Tyler Cox-Philyaw won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters and Sherando senior Trevor Whiteside won the 1,000 at the Group 4A state indoor track and field meet Saturday at Liberty University.

Cox-Philyaw won the 1,600 in 4 minutes and 14.63 seconds, 0.75 ahead of the runner-up. In the 3,200, Cox-Philyaw recorded a time of 9:39.62. Junior teammate Alec Schrank took second in 9:41.68.

Whiteside recorded a time of 2:31.29 in the 1,000 to win by 1.63 seconds.

Also on Saturday in boys’ action, Handley’s Trey Causey tied for fifth in the high jump (6 feet).

Sherando junior Davina Lane led the way on the girls’ side, taking second in the 55 hurdles (8.46) and sixth in the 300 (42.03).

James Wood’s Grace Greene placed seventh in the shot put (33-101/2).

In the boys’ team standings, Liberty Christian Academy was first with 73 points, Fauquier was second with 56, Millbrook tied for fourth with 28, Sherando tied for 20th with 10 and Handley tied for 32nd with three.

E.C. Glass won the girls’ meet with 75 points, Midlothian was second with 60, Sherando tied for 12th with 19 points, Handley was 19th with 11 and James Wood was 25th with six.
