Indoor track & field: Wood boys, Sherando girls win meet
STEPHENS CITY — The James Wood boys' team and the Sherando girls' team took first place at the six-school Sherando Polar Bear meet at Sherando High School on Wednesday.
Wood's boys' team finished with 141 points, 27 points above second-place Skyline (114 points). Sherando (72) finished third, Millbrook (23) finished fourth, Handley (14) took fifth and Warren County (12) took sixth.
Sherando won the girls' competition, scoring 114 points, just three more than second-place James Wood (111). Skyline (71) took third, Millbrook (34) took fourth, Warren County (23) took fifth and Handley (6) took sixth.
The following are local top-two finishes:
James Wood boys: Jorel Baltimore (55 dash, second in 7.20; 55 hurdles, first in 8.44); Connor Kenney Fitzner (300, first in 38.92); Carrick Amerine (1,600, first in 5:07.23); Nathan Reynolds (1,600, second in 5:09.90); Abe Miller (3,200, first in 12:52.80); Brayden Pineda (long jump, second in 18-6; triple jump, second in 36-4).
Sherando boys: Hatcher Smith (1,000, first in 2:52.90); Drew Johnson (3,200, second in 14:07.67); Noah Harris (high jump, 6-6); Nico Walker (high jump, 5-4); Quincy Walker (shot put, first with 46-7); Emerson Fletcher (shot put, second with 45-3).
Millbrook boys: Tobias Flower (500, second in 1:17.25).
Sherando girls: McKenna Hardy (55, first in 7.75; high jump, first with 5 feet; long jump, first with 15-9; triple jump, first with 32-9); Kalysta Falls (300, first in 48.65; 55 hurdles, second in 10.27); Mercedes Silver (high jump, second with 5 feet); Ariana Stafford (shot put, first with 28-11).
James Wood girls: Sierra-Nicole Wimer (55, second in 8.12); Reese Lessard (300, second in 49.04; 500, first in 1:32.28); Isabelle French (55 hurdles, first in 9.60)
Millbrook girls: Addison Stover (1,600, first in 6:14.89); Jillian Taylor (shot put, second with 27-2).
