CHRISTIANSBURG- Sherando sophomore Kelsey Dingman placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle to lead all area swimmers at the Group AA/A state meet Saturday at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.

Dingman, who recorded a time of 25.10 seconds, also placed 14th in the 100 free (56.05).

In the girls' team standings, Western Albemarle was first with 262 points, William Byrd was second with 202, Sherando tied for 30th with 16, James Wood tied for 35th with 10, Handley tied for 41st with 3, and Clarke County finished 43rd with 2.

James Wood was led by Alex Lew (13th in the 50 free in 25.50) and its 200 medley relay team of McKenzie McNemar, Kaye Whitacre, Sara Fergus and Lew that placed 14th in 2:00.31.

For Handley, Liz Grove placed 14th in the 200 IM in 2:17.82, and for Clarke County, Emily Deem placed 15th in the 50 free (25.65, setting a new personal best and school record).

In the boys' meet, Tabb was first with 223 points, Hidden Valley was second with 220, Millbrook tied for 37th with 6, and Handley was 41st with 2.

The Pioneers were led by Thomas Northrup (13th in the 100 butterfly in 55.68) and Michael Span (15th in the 100 backstroke in 58.56). Handley's 200 free relay team of Alex Johnson, Jarett Cestaro, Samuel Stearns and Taylor Watts placed 16th in 1:34.56.
