SWIMMING - Sherando sweeps Black & Blue invitational
WINCHESTER — The Sherando boys and girls swimming teams each came in first place in the six-team Black & Blue Invitational at Jim Barnett Park’s War Memorial Building pool Saturday.
On the boys’ side, Sherando scored 333.5 points and James Wood was second with 212.5 points. The Warriors scored 313 points on the girls’ side, with James Wood taking second with 277.
James Wood was led by Conor Babington and Brian Baker.
Baker won the 200-meter freestyle in 2 minutes, 7.04 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.75. Babington won the 50 free in 26.19 and the 100 butterfly in 1:03.91. Each swam on the winning 200 medley relay (2:05.73) and 200 freestyle relay (1:47.60).
Sherando was led individually by James Williams, who placed first in the 100 free in 1:00.78 and the 100 backstroke in 1:10.31; and Daniel Milburn, who placed first in the 200 individual medley in 2:38.59 and third in the 100 free in 1:02.94.
James Wood’s Zoe Schopick was first in the 200 free in 2:30.98, first in the 100 butterfly in 1:14.30 and swam on the winning 200 medley relay (2:26.01) and 400 free relay (4:51.55).
Sherando was led by Brenna Sharp (first in the 100 backstroke in 1:17.08), Kelsey Dingman (first in the 50 free in 29.15 and the 400 free in 5:15.09, sportsmanship award winner). Laura Ferguson was first in the 100 free in 1:09.84.
