Regional Swim Meet

FAIRFAX — Sherando senior Kelsey Dingman won a pair of events to lead the way individually at Saturday’s 4A North Region swim meet at the George Mason Aquatic Center.

Dingman took first place in both the 100-yard freestyle (56.66 seconds) and the 50 free (25.24 seconds) to lead the Warrior girls to eighth place out of 19 teams.

Sherando’s boys’ team placed sixth out of 20 teams. The Warriors’ James Williams placed third in the 200 free (1:51.31) and fourth in the 100 free (50.84) and teammate Mark Restrepo took sixth (1:53.53) in the 200 free.

The top six finishers in individual events and top three relays move on to next week’s 4A state swim meet (as well as individuals and teams who already posted state-qualifying times).

Handley’s girls’ team, led by senior Liz Grove’s third place finish in the 100 back (1:01.31) and fourth-place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:20.30), placed 12th.

Millbrook junior Alex Morrow placed fourth in the 100 back (59.03) and teamed with Hunter Doherty, Danny Hollingsworth and Chris Patton to take third in the 400 free relay (3:31.41) to help the Pioneer boys finish 12th.

James Wood senior Brian Baker took third in the 100 free (50.62) and junior teammate Conor Babington placed fifth in the 50 free (22.93) and sixth in the 100 breast (1:05.40) to help the Colonels finish 14th overall.

Millbrook freshman Lindsay Fairbanks came in fourth in both the 100 free (57.72) and 200 free (2:03.40), and Abbey Esslinger took fifth in the 200 IM (2:20.86), helping the Pioneer girls place 15th overall.

James Wood’s girls team, led by freshman Zoe Schopick’s sixth-place finish in the 100 fly (1:02.89), finished tied for 16th.

Heritage won the boys’ meet, and Dominion took first in the girls’ meet.
