Swimming - Colonels take 3rd at meet

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.VA. — Zoe Schopick won the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley to lead James Wood’s girls’ swim team to third place at the Sweet Inspirations Invitational at Shepherd University on Saturday.

Schopick won the 100 fly in one minute, 2.95 seconds to set a new pool record and she also took first in the 200 I.M. in 2:25.79.

She also teamed with Taylin Crosen, Erin Jackson and Lydia Sunderlin to take second (1:53.01) in the 200-free relay. Other place winners for James Wood’s girls included Jackson in the 100 back (second) and 200 I.M. (fourth).

Schopick and Jackson earned all tournament honors.

Sherando’s girls won the meet title with 423 points. Jefferson (W.Va.) was the runner-up with 383. James Wood (3401/2), James Buchanan (309) and Millbrook (244) completed the scoring.

James Wood’s Dean Ludwig finished as the runner-up in the 100 back and placed fifth in the 100 fly to lead the Colonels to third place in the boys’ meet.

The Colonels’ Sam McCarthy too third in the 500 free and fourth in the 200 I.M., and Brian Hua came in third in the 100 fly and fourth in the 100 breast. David Dorsey was fourth in the 500 free and sixth in the 200 free.

Hua, McCarthy, Ludwig and Dorsey earned all-tournament honors.

Sherando won the boys’ meet with 555 points. Jefferson (323), James Wood (316), Spring Mills (256) and James Buchanan (176) rounded out the team scoring.
