Group 4A Swim Meet

RICHMOND — Sherando High School’s boys’ swim team placed ninth at the VHSL Group 4A championships at the Swim RVA Aquatic Center in Richmond on Saturday.

The Warrior boys took ninth with 87 points, finishing as the only area team in the top 10 in the boys’ or girls’ meets.

Sherando junior Daniel Milburn came in seventh in the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.79), and senior Ethan Medrano placed eighth in the 100 free (50.14) and 11th in the 50 free (23.12).

Warriors freshman Mathew Pham placed 10th in the 100 breast (1:04.54), and senior Jeremy Linaburg followed in 14th in the 100 breast (1:05.45).

Sherando’s 200-yard medley relay team of Milburn, Jeremy Linaburg, David Restrepo and Medrano came in eighth (1:43.40) and the Warriors’ 200 free relay team of Restrepo, Hunter Mayo, Milburn and Medrano also took eighth (1:33.36). The Warriors’ 400 free relay team of Mayo, Cameron Gregory, Pham and Restrepo came in 15th (3:34.75).

Jamestown won the boys’ meet with 275 points. Hanover (154), John Champe (153), Jefferson Forest (146) and Courtland (142.5) completed the top five.

Handley’s boys finished tied for 28th with seven points. Judges senior Carter Watts came in 12th in the 100 free (51.73) and 15th in the 50 free (23.70).

In the girls’ meet, Millbrook junior Abbey Esslinger took ninth in the 200 I.M. (2:15.21) and 12th in the 100 fly (1:01.72).

Millbrook junior Lindsay Fairbanks came in 12th in the 200 free (2:01.66) and 14th in the 500 free (5:24.96).

Millbrook’s 200 medley relay team of Fairbanks, Eliza Grigsby, Esslinger and Taylor Linder came in 13th (2:03.36), and the Pioneers’ 400 free relay team of Esslinger, Erin Dooley, Linder and Fairbanks came in 13th (3:57.27). The Pioneers finished 14th with 38 points.

James Wood junior Zoe Schopick placed 11th in the 100 fly in 1:01.61, and teammate Erin Jackson placed 16th in the 100 back (1:06.29). The Colonels came in 22nd with seven points.

Sherando, led by Abigail Sears’ 11th-place finish in the 100 breast, came in 23rd with six points.

Handley freshman Kenzie Fergus took 13th in the 100 back (1:04.35). The Judges placed 27th with four points.

Jamestown took first in the girls’ meet with 318 points to sweep both team titles. Lafayette (251), Rock Ridge (179), King George (171) and John Champe (160) rounded out the girls’ top five.
