Swimming - City County Sprint Championships

WINCHESTER — The Sherando boys’ and girls’ swimming teams swept the City County Sprint Championships on Saturday at Jim Barnett Park.

Kyra Schultz and Emma De Jong each won a pair of individual events to lead the Warriors to victory in the girls’ event with a team total of 239 points. Handley (168), Millbrook (60) and James Wood (47) followed.

Schultz captured the 100-meter individual medley (1:16.44) and 50 butterfly (34.16), while De Jong triumphed in the 50 (30.84) and 100 freestyle (1:05.59) events. Jordyn Jones took the 200 freestyle (2:23.86) and Hannah Starustka won the 50 breaststroke (39.99) for Sherando.

Meredith Watts (25 freestyle in 15.35) and Kenzi Fergus (50 backstroke in 33.56) won individual events for Handley.

Ayman Ibrahim and Matthew Pham both won two individual events to pace the Sherando boys to victory with a total of 180 points. Millbrook (119), James Wood (99) and Handley (87) followed.

Ibrahim swam to wins in the 100 freestyle (59.11) and 50 butterfly (28.41), while Pham captured the 200 freestyle (2:17.81) and 50 breaststroke (34.30). The Warriors also got an individual win from Peter Pham (27.38 in the 50 freestyle).

Millbrook took the rest of the individual events with wins by Zach Hicks (14.00 in the 25 freestyle), Patrick Northrup (1:16.44 in the 100 individual medley) and Tim McCarthy (33.47 in the 50 backstroke).
