SWIMMING - Region 4C Meet
WARRENTON — Sherando senior Ayman Ibrahim placed second in the 100-yard freestyle in 48.95 seconds to highlight area performances at the Region 4C meet on Friday at the Warrenton Aquatic Center.
Ten state-qualifying performances were achieved at the meet. Individuals who placed in the top five, relays that placed in the top four and those achieving state-qualifying times on Friday, as well as those who achieved state times prior to Friday’s meet, all advance to the Class 4 state meet next Saturday at SwimRVA in Richmond.
Ibrahim also placed fifth in the 50 free (22.77) to help Sherando tie for sixth in the boys’ meet with 81 points. Kettle Run won with 207 points, one point better than Loudoun County. James Wood was 11th with 31, while Handley was 12th with 29 and Millbrook was 13th with 27.
Millbrook’s Patrick Northrup (seventh in the 200 free, 1:49.88) and James Wood’s Brian Hua (ninth in the 100 butterfly, 56.00) also had state-qualifying performances.
Riverside won the girls’ meet with 291 points and Woodgrove was second with 234. Sherando was sixth with 97 points. Handley was eighth with 67 and James Wood was 10th with 29. Millbrook did not have a participant.
Girls who had state-qualifying performances were: James Wood’s Kim Warnagaris (third in the 100 fly at 57.45; fourth in the 200 individual medley at 2:10.16); Sherando’s Emma De Jong (third in the 100 breaststroke at 1:09.84), the Warriors’ 4x400 relay team of Kyra Schultz, Gracie Twigg, Jordyn Jones and De Jong (third at 3:56.51) and Handley’s Kenzi Fergus (fifth in the 500 free at 5:23.30; fifth in the 100 backstroke at 1:02.10).
