Swimming: James Wood sweeps quad
WINCHESTER — The James Wood boys and girls each went 3-0 in a quad competition on Friday night at Jim Barnett Park, and the Clarke County boys and girls each went 2-1.
In the boys' meet, the Colonels won every event but two and defeated the Eagles 89-62, Manassas Park 92-43 and Central 95-41. Clarke County defeated Central 84-53 and Manassas Park 72-62.
In the girls' meet, James Wood won every event and defeated Clarke County 126-41, Central 132-32 and Manassas Park 134-29. The Eagles defeated Central 89-62 and Manassas Park 98-49.
James Wood boys' winners: Eddie Grimes (200-meter free, 2:08.92, 400 free, 4:43.89), Joe Warnagiris (200 IM, 2:12.34; 100 fly, 1:00.47), Alex Hua (50 free, 26.81; 100 back, 1:10.66), Zach Harrington (100 breast, 1:21.45), 200 medley relay (Michael Thompson, Warnagiris, Hua, Ethan Britton) 1:59.93, 200 free relay (Hua, Britton, Warnagiris, Grimes) 1:46.57.
Clarke County boys' winners: Jefferson Fairbanks (100 free, 1:00.35), 400 free relay (Fairbanks, Ryan Hooks, Ethan Marchisano, Patrick Whalen) state-qualifying time of 4:23.06. (Hooks also took third in the 200 free in a state-qualifying 2:20.34.)
