Warriors swim to sweep over James Wood

Winchester — Peter Restrepo and Morgan DeJong each won two individual events as the Sherando High School boys’ swimming team defeated James Wood 119-51 in a dual meet at Jim Barnett Park on Friday night.

Restrepo won the 200-meter freestyle (2:13.31) and 100 freestyle (1:00.12), while DeJong took first in the 200 IM (2:28.44) and 100 backstroke (1:08.96).

Sherando’s girls also defeated the Colonels, by a score of 109-60.

Megan DeJong had a pair of individual victories to lead the Warriors. She took the 200 IM (2:35.95) and 100 breaststroke (1:21.94) — both in state qualifying times.

Emalee Firestein won two events for James Wood — the 200 free (2:24.40) and 400 free (5:03.80).

Kaye Whitacre also turned in a state-qualifying time (1:23.02) for the Colonels while finishing second to DeJong in the 100 breaststroke.

Sherando swept the relays in both the boys’ and girls’ competitions.
