James Wood 4th at Max Horz Tourney
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.VA. — Handley High School’s wrestling team finished as the runner-up at the 14-team Max Horz Tournament at Berkeley Springs High School on Saturday.
Handley’s Jordan Dowrey (285 pounds) led the Judges by taking first place in his weight class, beating Independence’s Zach Fleshman by fall in 3:21. Dowrey led 11 placewinners for the Judges.
Tommy Shea-roop (220) finished as the runner-up, and Lio Quezada (113) took third. Coby Pitcock (170) and Skylar Wotring (195) came in fourth, and Sean Bridgeforth (132), Dolan Delaney (145), Emory Rodgers (160) and Killian McPartland (182) came in fifth. Andrew Germelman (106) and Anthony Andriola (138) came in sixth for the Judges, who finished with 201⁄2 points behind first-place Loudoun County.
James Wood finished fourth with 147 points. Jimmy Woznak led the Colonels taking first place at 106 with an 8-1 decision over Millbrook’s Ryan Meushaw. Ryan Funkhouser (145) and Taylor Swartz (120) finished as runners-up.
The Colonels’ other placewinners included Erik Bearer (third, 285), Eric Arkfeld (4th, 132), Adam Vaddell (4th, 220), Levi Roy (5th, 170) and Hunter Bently (6th, 152).
Millbrook followed in fifth place with 1401⁄2 points. Meushaw, Trae Sine (113) and Dylan Wisman (170) all finished as runners-up to lead the Pioneers. Nick Kilmer (160) came in third, Michael Keeler (182) took fourth, and Isaac Meadows (126), Devon Sharp (195) and Aaron Seal (220) all placed fifth.
Sherando finished eighth, but the Warriors had a pair of individual champions.
Jacob Guthridge (120) won a 3-2 decision over Wood’s Swartz in the final, and Tyler Hamilton won an 11-5 decision over Loudoun County’s Cory Dickey in the 195-pound final.
Other Sherando placewinners included Dan Mullaney (second, 160), Kyle Vangel (fifth, 138), Curtis Guthridge (sixth, 113), and Colton Simmons (sixth, 132).
