Max Horz Tournament

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.VA. — Jacob Guthridge and P.K. Jessen won titles in their respective weight classes to lead Sherando to the team title at the 29th Max Horz Invitational at Berkeley Springs High School on Saturday.
Guthridge won the title at 132 pounds, and Jessen took the title at 170. Guthridge and Jessen were two of 10 Sherando wrestlers that placed in the top six in their weight classes, giving the Warriors (208 points) a 15-point victory over runner-up Myersdale (Pa.). It was the Warriors’ first win at the Horz since 2000, and Sherando won despite having four starters (who play football) out of the lineup.
Sherando’s Mike Duffy (106), Curtis Guthridge (113) and Jordan Dalton (145) all finished as runners-up, and John Borst (152) came in third. Andrew Hamilton (126) and Kendall Helsley (160) came in fourth, and Colton Simmons (138) and Chris Morgan (195) took sixth for the Warriors.
Sherando was one of four area teams in the tournament and all four had at least one individual champion.
Millbrook (161 points), led by champions Ryan Meushaw (113) and Dylan Wisman (182), came in fourth. Trae Sine (120) took runner-up honors, and Devon Sharp (195) and Joseph Tanner (285) came in third for the Pioneers. Millbrook’s Donte Hogg (106) took fourth, and Lee Artrip (220) placed sixth.
James Wood, led by 106-pound champion Aaron Black, followed in fifth with 148 1/2 points. Jimmy Woznak (138) and Daniel Funkhouser (182) took runner-up honors, and Caleb Arce (120) came in fourth for the Colonels. Wood’s Matt Artrup (113), Donald Mellott (170) and Adam Vadell (220) came in fifth, and Hunter Bentley (160) placed sixth.
Handley’s Lio Quezada took first place at 120 pounds, leading the Judges (140 1/2) to seventh place in the 14-team tournament. The Judges’ Tommy Shea-Roop (220) came in third, and Harrison Robinson (145) and Coby Pitcock (182) took fourth. Handley’s Joe Lewis (160) came in fifth, and Cam Bentley (132) and Dolan Delaney (152) placed sixth.
