Eight Local Wrestlers Advance To State Finals

SALEM — Eight wrestlers will compete for state championships today at the state wrestling tournament at the Salem Civic Center.

The Group 4A state finalists are Millbrook’s Ryan Meushaw (113 pounds) and Dylan Wisman (182), Handley’s Lio Quezada (120) and Jordan Dowrey (285), Sherando’s P.K. Kessen (170) and James Wood’s Aaron Black (106). In Group 2A, Clarke County’s Bayne Gordon (106) and Ben Wallace (170) will compete for state championships.

Those schools sent a combined 15 other wrestlers to the state tournament, and each of them will compete in the consolation final matches that will begin at 11 a.m. The championship finals are at 4:30.

In the Group 4A team standings, Hanover is in first with 80 points, Smithfield is in second with 79.5, Millbrook is in fifth with 43, Handley is in sixth with 39, Sherando is in seventh with 36, and James Wood is in 12th with 24.

In the Group 2A team standings, Grundy is in first with 143.5, Strasburg is in second with 72.5 and Clarke County is in third with 63.5.
