WRESTLING - Walters/Copp Holiday Wrestling Tournament (Day 1)

WINCHESTER — Handley is in second place heading into the second and final day of action at the 17-team Willie Walters/Jaye Copp Holiday Wrestling Tournament at James Wood High School.

The Judges scored 67 points on Wednesday, 29 behind first-place Patrick Henry. Sherando is in third with 62 points, James Wood is in eighth with 39 and Clarke County is tied for ninth with 39.

Locals who advanced to today’s championship semifinals are:

Handley — Mac Gordon (113 pounds), Web Bentley (132), Cam Bentley (138), John Delaney (145), Jensen Lofton (152), Jimmy Vitola (182),

Sherando — Timmy Dieter (120 pounds), Anthony Damico (126), Jacob Stevens (138), Zach McCarty (182), John Borst (195),

James Wood — Aaron Black (120 pounds), Bailey Eichelberger (170),

Clarke County — Bayne Gordon (132 pounds), William Heath (160) and Bryan Wallace (220).

The matchups between Gordon and Bentley at 132 pounds and Stevens and Bentley at 138 pounds are the only ones that will pit local wrestlers against each other.

Today’s action will start with second round consolations at 9:30 a.m. The championship semifinals will start at 10:20 p.m. The championship finals will start at 5:15 p.m.
