Sherando leads after first day of Walters/Copp wrestling
WINCHESTER — Sherando leads the 12-team Willie Walters/Jaye Copp wrestling tournament after the first day of action on Thursday at James Wood’s Shirley Gymnasium.
The Warriors have 80 points, and the host Colonels are second with 78. Clarke County is in 10th with 28 points.
Action resumes today with the semifinals, which start at 10:15 p.m. The rest of the day will feature a rolling schedule, so there’s no set time for the championship finals.
Sherando has 10 wrestlers in the semifinals: Gavin Eanes (120), Heath Rudolph (126), Timmy Dieter (132), Jackson Bryant (138), Christian Burns (145), Quinn McPartland (152), Shawn Norris (170), Zach McCarty (182), Zack Kales (220) and Deshawn Lee (285).
James Wood has eight in the semifinals: Noah Cooley (106), Corey Lemons (132), Joey Vitola (138), Sam Adkins (145), Aaron Curd (152), Maverick Eichelberger (170), Luke Roy (195) and Kobey Brooker (220).
Clarke County’s semifinalists are Jack Smith (120), Pete McLean (220) and Bryan Wallace (285).
