Wood grad Nuss wins first college wrestling tournament for Wilkes
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — James Wood graduate and Wilkes University junior wrestler Christopher Nuss won Elizabethtown University’s Blue Jay Classic in his season debut on Saturday for his first career tournament championship.
Wrestling at 184 pounds, Nuss won four matches. He defeated Louis Frisenda of Keystone by fall in 2:14 in the Round of 16, Scranton’s Jonathan Sklavounos by a 10-1 major decision in the quarterfinals, and SUNY Cortland’s Robert Cunningham 5-2 in the semifinals. In the championship match, Nuss defeated senior teammate Hunter Lowe 4-1. Nuss had an escape in the second period for a 1-0 lead and a takedown in the third period.
Nuss helped the NCAA Division III Colonels place second out of 10 teams with 145 points, seven behind No. 21 Elizabethtown. Nuss was one of two champions in the 10 weight classes at the tournament.
Nuss was 24-12 as a freshman and 20-14 as a sophomore, when he wrestled at 174 pounds and earned Third Team All-Middle Atlantic Conference honors.
