College wrestling: Nuss wins second tourney for Wilkes
WILKES-BARRE — James Wood graduate and Wilkes University 184-pound junior Chris Nuss won his second tournament of the season at the 90th Wilkes Open on Friday at the Marts Center.
The Wilkes Open features wrestlers from NCAA Division I, II and III teams as well as others from club teams and unattached wrestlers.
Nuss (8-0) opened the tournament with a Round of 16 win by fall over Xavier Aitelmajouh of West Chester University in 3:13. Nuss then earned an 11-3 major decision in the quarterfinals over Jacob Hachtman of King's College. A first-period takedown (three points) and third-period escape earned Nuss a 4-2 decision in the semifinals over Jessie Orbin of Waynesburg University. Nuss won the championship as a result of a forfeit by Hudson Stewart of the University of Virginia.
