Willie Walters Tournament

WINCHESTER- Sherando High School's wrestling team sent five wrestlers into the championship semifinals to put the Warriors in third place after the first day of the Willie Walters wrestling tournament at James Wood High School on Wednesday.

Stafford (84 points) leads the tournament followed by Potomac Falls (77) and Sherando (67) in the 16-team tournament.

The Warriors' semifinalists are Jacob Guthridge (103 pounds), Brandon Fletcher (125), Dan Mullaney (130), Zach Fletcher (160) and B.J. Askew (285).

James Wood, eighth with 52 points, sent three wrestlers into the championship semifinals. Taylor Swartz (103), Cody Landis (125) and Mark Bean (189) all advanced to today's semifinal round.

Handley, which is in 14th with 33 points, has Tom Delaney (145) alive in the championship semifinals.

Stonewall Jackson (66) and Turner Ashby (64) round out the top five.

The tournament resumes at 10 a.m. today with the finals scheduled for 5 p.m.
